WARNING: Welding Flash Burns
I know, I was stupid. But welded some 3" square plate onto some 3' pipe to hold down some Railroad ties for a friends driveway. Didn't take long. Didn't think anything about wearing shorts and a sleeveless shirt. LUCKILY they were those long shorts that go to your knees. NOW I have flash burns on the inside of my knees, and inside my upper arms. Won't EVER do that again. Pants and at least sleeved shirts from now on.

OUCH

Been there! Have the spots on my legs to prove it. Watch out for reflection to. Burned my eyes once from the reflection so bad I couldn't open my eyes for the pain for two days.

I didn't think you could get THAT red. One of life's lessons I guess. One I will NEVER forget.

Are you fair-skinned? I can weld all day long in shorts and a t-shirt and not even get a tan. Maybe I've become conditioned to it though? J. J.

I wonder if stick welding produces a brighter arc than mig?

I quess fair skinned normally. Have to burn before I can tan. But the actuall welding was probably 18 to 20 inches from me. Had the work propped on a concrete block and I was sitting on a milk crate. As far as MIG/TIG/STICK, wouldn't think there'd be TOO much of a difference. Guess we should send that to MythBusters.
