Tire Carrier almost done
It was time to stop for the day. The toughest part is done (I hope). Should be done w/ the tire carrier tomorrow. Just need to set up the latch, relocate the license plate, and add a few washers to use as spacers between the factory bumper "skin" and the bottom of the brackets. So far it's slow going b/c of the hitch. Up next, longer shocks and extended front brake lines. A CB shortly there after.

Glad to see you were able to make some progress.

I was just about to put on the finishing touches and find that there's contact between the hatch and hinge. The owner of Detours is working w/ me for some replacement hardware that should do the trick. So far, he is standing behind his work and should have this resolved soon. :therethere:

Ahhh, finially finished the carrier last weekend. Detours had to send a new main cross bar (behind the bumper) to replace the origional that was 3/8" too close to the body causing the hatch to hit the hinge. It was a lot of effort for 3/8" but worth it in the end. oh yeh, some other stuff

Looks nice! Do you still drive 46's ? I was a SAR swimmer for 11 years in H-3's (non ASW). Now I get to drive this

I wish, but my old squadron became the last East Coast 46 squadron to transition to the V-22 after the last deployment. So I came here to instruct in the mighty TH-57 (Bell 206) Jet Ranger. A bit smaller but still fun to fly. Maybe one day I'll get back in the 46.

hey PHROGDRIVER that tire carrier looks awsome man i have 88 xj....that would look sweet on mine too..could u tell me the price tag on this project..thanks Here's the kit on Detour's 385 + 55 shipping. The owner, Mark, offered GREAT customer service and is willing to make some modifications to the carrier free of charge (tilt the wheel forward, delete the flames). Painting to match the factory was a cost I wasn't expecting (automotivetouchup.com). It's the lowest cost option I could find for a heavy duty tire carrier (35" tire or 33" beadlock). cheers.
